Servas

Servas is an organisation that was started shortly after the 2nd World War with the idea to promote peace throughout the world. It's a pacifist organisation that works at the lowest possible level to spread the ideas of non-violence. It is non-religious.

The idea is very simple, "Enable people who are travelling to stay with people that live in the country that they are visiting". Rather than stay in a hotel, you stay in somebody's home. Somebody who lives in the country that you're visiting. This way you can hopefully get more of an impression of the culture of the country that you are visiting.
