South Africa Diary 19 August 2002
Home

Cintsa is today's destination. The backpackers is a small ramshackle collection of buildings hidden like gems on a tree covered hill. It's even not raining! This area of South Africa is home to the Xhosa people. They have a few more letters in their alphabet than we do. They also have some new ways to pronounce them. 'C' for example is pronounced with a sound like a clicking tongue, so Cintsa is pronounced {click}intsa. There are also other sounds like the tongue click further back in the mouth and throat, but I've no idea how they do them!

...It's raining to make up for lost time. It's raining as though the seas want to exchange places with the sky. grrrrr.

The answer? Play drums, drink free wine, eat dinner and then drink some more. It's working so far!

To tomorrow
