The bus trip from Airlie Beach to Hervey Bay wasn't as bad as from Cairns to Airlie, despite being even longer at around 14 hours. Although Hervey Bay is larger than Airlie, theres less of an atmosphere (at least so far anyway). Still, like most people here I'm only really staying long enough to get over to Fraser Island.

We got put into our groups for the island adventure at 4 o'clock, in the bar (where else). My group was made up of four guyss who were travelling together up the coast in a campervan, a delightful couple, myself and two Israelis and a Brazillian who were also travelling together. We were told to sort ourselves out for food and alcohol shopping ready for an early start the next morning. An involved trip to the local Supermarket later and I was sure that myself and Ella, the other vegetarian were going to eat well over the next few days. In fact we all were, as we deliberately bought more food than required as we were going to be feeding a couple of hungry Israelis. Or so we thought.

Fanous Pete and I returned from the shopping only to find out that the group of the Israelis and the Brazillian had pulled out. That left us with $90 worth of food that we didn't need - bugger. To add insult to injury, the hostel hadn't taken any form of deposit or payment from them. To say that I was slightly annoyed would have been the understatement of the weekend. Still, on the positive side it meant that our group was down to seven meaning more room in the van and tents for the rest of us!

To tomorrow
