We started our tour today. I'm on a 9 day trip that will take in Kakadu National Park, the Stuart Highway and the area around Alice Springs including Uluru.

The first part of the trip, to Kakadu started at 6:45 this morning when Troy, our tour guide picked up the 16 of us in our 4 wheel drive truck cum bus. We've a fair mix of folks on the bus, 2 danish girls, four Japanese; including Yugi, Steve & Ania from the UK and Poland, a Swedish lady, Nathanial from USA, and finally Emma, Nikki, Heather and myself from the UK.

We saw sone cathedral termite mounds in the morning on the way south out of Darwin. Impressive little b*ggers them termites.

At the campsite, Kevin the resident Aboriginal expert and healer (Yo!) took us on a little walk about (in the 45c heat) and showed us some aboriginal bits and pieces; including trees that digiridoos are traditionally made from (the woolly-bark and stringy-bark trees), a traditional looking 'holy place', and a woomera (spear-thrower). We also learnt how to play the dig (ya say 'didge', it's short for digiridoo) - without even needing one (regginoull-regginoull-regginoull-regginoull-regginoull). Yugi was easily the best of us - he had the hand actions perfect - and he was asked to join in with some Aboriginal dancing with Kevin and the boys later that evening.

In the afternoon we piled on to a couple of boats for a cruise to see crocs and other wildlife on Mary River. This was one of the highlights of the trip.

In the evening we were treated to traditional style Aboriginal dancing by Kevin and the Wilderness dance troup. The show and the evening was stolen by Yugi's dancing

The only negative thing about the day where all the bl**dy mozzies! Evill suckers they are round here

To tomorrow
