Australia Diary May 2002

I spent the day wandering around picking up bits and pieces for people today. Definitely go to 'Paddys Markets' as and when you come to Sydney. Another thing thats pretty good to do is the Power House museum up neara Darling Harbour. I'd been meaning to go there for some time, but never quite got around to it.

There's quite a lot there at the place, although the emphasis is on technology and engineering based things. They'd got an exhibit specifically devoted to Harley Davidson motor cycles on at the time which was interesting.

There also a little dedication to Vegemite. Aussies didn't always love the stuff. It was launched in 1924 but for eleven years made little impact against its (British) rival Marmite. Fred Walker, the owner even made a rather lame attempt at changing the name to Pawill in an effort to win people over ("If Mamite, then Pawill"). Consumers were finally won over by a campaign that gave the stuff away free if you bought other Kraft Walker products.

To tomorrow
