New Zealand Diary 15 July 2002

I went skiing today. There are several ski slopes within reach of Queenstown; Coronet, Treble cone, the Remarkables and Cardrona. I traveled to Cardona on the recommendation of my hostel. I'm a little out of practice when it comes to skiing. I've been twice in my life, once over twelve years ago and the next and last time was about four years ago. It took me an hour or so of tentative skiing and sheer panic before I'd got enough confidence to start going down the intermediate runs at any speed. The weather was unfortunately not on my side either. It was very cloudy from the start of the day which then progressed into a snow storm that lasted the rest of the day. It's very difficult to pick up bumps and dips when the light is so flat. Still, the hot chocolate was great and I only fell over three times - which for me is pretty good!

To tomorrow
